Following upto Matt's post about lobying Fuji for Provia in cartridges (and with the sprocket holes cut properly) I think it would be far more likely to happen if we could put to them a specific order for a specific quantity - rather than just asking them to bring it back -- if we could all add up how much stock we want and say somehting like would you make 500 cartridges of stock X at $whatever per cartridge - that way they can do their maths right away it may be alot more more feasible a proposition for them knowing the demand number and being paid up front
What do you think?

That sounds more feasible than asking them to start a whole new product line.
Maybe they could do what Kodak used to do with its regular 8mm--offer only a certain amount for special orders to people who want to repackage and resell the film.

Super8 film made by Fuji already exist. In 25 and 200ASA. It is called Single 8 Oh but the cartridges do not fit in your nice beaulieu cameras ? Too bad... It fits in mine camera. ;-)
No but seriously, is the fujichrome film used in Single8 cartridge the same, or close to, the Velvia ?
Maybe Fuji can not legally put on of their film into a super8 cartridge ? (Kodak would not allow it)
Thought?

Martin Baumgarten processes regular 8mm film (though which stocks he processes I don't know). Maybe we should lobby him or John Schwind of International Film fame.
I agree that Pro8mm should be considered out of the question for this. How about one of the local labs that handle VNF and B&W stocks? Perhaps they could be persuaded.
Or, for another crazy idea, how about one of the posters here who do their own home developing? How difficult is it to develop Provia stocks? Is it as difficult as processing K40? Is it a three-strip color stock or single-strip stock?

Barry sent me his roll of Provia and we transfered it. In my opinion, the colors and grain weren't on par with K40, but then what reversals are? I would say it looked a lot like the old Ektachrome 40 that Kodak used to make in super 8. However, I think the colors on the E40 were more natural looking but that's just my opinion.
Unfortunately, the perfs were just really chewy; either a problem with Barry's Eumig projector or Pro8mm's punch couldn't handle the tougher polyester base Provia. I sort of think it was the latter as someone with the Provia looked at the sprocket holes with a magnifying glass and felt they were not clean, either. Also, Barry shot with two different cameras and they both showed excessive jitter with the frame lines swelling and contracting rather violently. Not likely that both cameras were flawed, eh?
At any rate, considering how expensive the Provia is to have slit and loaded, one might as well shoot 16mm short ends and be done with it. Hardly worth the grief, IMHO.

I'm all for this, but I think we should figure out just who would do the processing, and how much it would cost.
I for one, will not deal with Super 8 Sound, so if they're going to process it, count me out.
Otherwise, I'd be into getting some of this and trying it out.

Might add that Agfa, after Fuji+others and Kodak split in the early 60?s failng to go for a common S8 film format, started off to try out the polyester S8 based film (Going for the Kodak S8 carts). However, they abandoned it due to problems with proper preforating of the Polyester film turning to Acetate film.
Source: http://www.super8.de/news.htm Auf Schmalfilm-Spurensuche durch Japan (German only unfortunately)
So who other than Fuji perforates Polyester S8/Si8 film perfectly: For the time beeing, none I believe. Kodak will have to deal with it if they switch to Polyester but will they then quit supplying S8? Guess they have to re-examine the S8 cartidge vs the Polyester film too?

Maybe it would just be easier to lobby Kodak to perf new stocks? The E-100, etc?
Don't they already issue R8 if someone comes up with a huge order? Maybe we should bother them about putting out another Kodak stock...I don't want to deal with "Pro"8mm in any way shape or form!
